Summer: June – August

If winter is what brings you to Breckenridge, summer and all its splendor is what will keep you sticking around. Not only does summer give you a chance to enjoy the other side of our outdoor activities, but it’s also when some of the area’s best festivals and events happen! From the Agave Festival in June to the Food and Wine Fest in July or the Bacon and Bourbon Fest in August… there’s always a fun (and tasty) activity happening.

If you’re an avid fisherman or just someone who likes to try new things, heading out on the Blue River for a guided fly-fishing excursion is a must. Golfers will find the thin mountain air does wonders for their swing. White water rafters have their pick of rapids thanks to snow melt and runoff. Hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy miles of trails and scenic vistas.

At night, you can stargaze under clear skies and catch a glimpse of the Milky Way. BBQ and visit with friends at Tiger Run Resort, and just enjoy the great weather (temps are usually in the 70s). With near-perfect conditions and a full calendar of fun, summer will certainly anchor itself in your heart as a must-visit time of year.

Fall: September – October

With school back in session, fall visitors will find fewer crowds, making it easy to get around town or into your favorite places. It also means you’ll have many outdoor spaces to yourself. It’s a great time to try famous hikes like the Blue River Rec Path from Breckenridge to Frisco, or the winding Minnie Mine Trail, where you’ll wander past abandoned mines and through towering Aspen groves.

As the leaves change, the mountains are flooded with color, making scenic drives a must-do. Bring the camera along on the Boreas Pass and capture some of the most stunning views of Colorado’s unique foliage.

If you’re itching for a scary good time during your fall visit, Breckenridge’s haunting past is the perfect thing. With one of the largest historic districts in Colorado, there are stories around every corner. Book a ghost tour or head to the Breckenridge Backstage Theater for a haunted house experience you won’t forget.

The Breckenridge Craft Spirits Festival occurs every fall and features small-batch distillers from 40 unique makers. And fall festivals and pumpkin patches offer family-friendly activities everyone will love.

Winter: November – April

Winter is the longest season of the year here in Summit County. As such, everyone, from the locals to visitors, makes the most of it with tons of activities, après events, and, of course, lots of fun. With roughly 355 inches of snow a year, most of the to-dos revolve around winter sports.

Breckenridge Resort offers 187 ski trails and 2,908 skiable acres that cater to all abilities and skill levels. If you’re not a skier, no worries! Scenic gondola rides, snow biking, snowmobiling tours, and sledding are other popular outdoor winter activities that the whole family can enjoy.

If you want to take the fun indoors, Tiger Run Resort offers 2 indoor hot tubs and a heated indoor pool so you can swim any time of year. If you’re up for a short drive, Indian Hot Springs and Cottonwood Hot Springs are an hour to an hour and a half away.

Local distilleries can warm you up with craft spirits like the gin, bourbon, and vodka found at Breckenridge Distillery. And the charming shops along our Historic Main Street invite you in to explore books, jewelry, antiques, and art.

Mud: Late March – Early June

Why not spring, you ask? Well, in Breckenridge, that special time between skiing and hiking comes with the melt of those 300+ inches of snow we just mentioned, and that can only mean one thing: MUD! Mud season in Colorado is a beloved shoulder season that has its own unique activities, and knowing how to make the most of it is what’s going to make it one of your favorite times to visit.

First, this is a time of year when vacation rentals, cabins, and even RV sites tend to be discounted, so if you’re looking for a getaway that won’t break the bank, mud season could be just the thing for you. Beyond accommodation deals, as ski resorts close up for the season, year-round restaurants, spas, and shops offer incredible deals on delicious food, relaxing treatments, and last season’s arrivals. If you need to find a new ski jacket, snowboard, or anything winter sports-related, mud season is the time to do it.

Beyond discounts, you can hit the roads on an ATV and 4x4 Jeep tour that will take you off-roading in remote areas otherwise inaccessible. Zipline tours will keep your feet out of the muck and give you a birds-eye view of the wildflower’s first showings of the season. Kayaking, rafting, and paddleboarding will just be kicking off, and up the road, about an hour and a half away, Glenwood Springs offers hot springs, excellent restaurants, and even a thrilling adventure park where you can explore caves or ride an alpine coaster.
